Obit: Joseph Adamek Sr. After battling with failing health for many months the tired spirit of Joseph Adamek Sr., passed into everlasting rest and peace on Wednesday, June 7, 1944 at 11:20 p.m. He covered the span of life in 67 years, 7 months and 25 days. Mr. Adamek had been ill for a long time and every effort was made to nurse him back to his former good health but an all wise Providence willed otherwise and Death finally ended his suffering. Funeral services were held under the direction of the Buffington Funeral Home on Friday, June 9 at 9:30 a.m. The long funeral procession wended its way from the family home on Shiner Rt. 2 to the St. Ann's Catholic Church for Solemn Requiem Mass, with Reverends Pustka, G. Boehm, and H. V. Hug, in charge. Interment followed in the St. Ann's Catholic Cemetery. Rev. Pustka in the Czech language, and Rev. Hug in English delivered comforting sermons. Rosary was recited at the family home, Thursday at 8 p.m. A large gathering of sorrowing relatives and friends witnessed the last rites and the floral offering was beautiful and profuse. Pall bearers were his sons and son-in-law, Joe, Anton, John, Frank and Charles Adamek and Anton Lahodny. Joseph Adamek Sr., was born in Czechoslovakia and came to America when 9 years of age. He settled in Lavaca county, where he spent the remainder of his life. At the age of 23 years he was united in marriage to Miss Carolina Marek who survive him. Other survivors are: 5 sons, Joe of Shiner; Anton of Dreyer; John of San Antonio, Frank of Petersville and Charlie of Austin. Three daughters: Mrs. Anton Lahodny of Shiner Rt. 2; Mrs. Frank Bartos of San Antonio, and Miss Janie Adamek of San Antonio. Surviving also are 14 grandchildren; 1 brother, C. v. Adamek of Taylor, and 1 step-sister, Mrs. Ceclie [as printed] Zamazal of Shiner. Deceased was a devoted husband and a kind father, he was a man of excellent habits and fine character. To his friends he was the soul of fellowship and during his long residence here, had endeared himself to a legion of friends, whose hearts are heavy because of his going away.
