Pierre --- Services for Fred Vavra, 81, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Oahe Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Howard W. Smith officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery under direction of Hofmeister Funeral Home. Vavra died Friday at the Prairie Good Samaritan Center in Miller. He was born Dec. 22, 1903, in Seward County, Neb., the son of Adolph and Rezena (Dvorak) Vavra, and as a boy moved with his parents to a homestead north of Presho. The family later moved to a farm near Winnebago, Neb. On Aug. 27, 1927, he married Marie Wagner and they farmed at Winnebago for 12 years. In 1939, they moved to a farm north of Presho, then in 1968 moved to Pierre. In March 1985, he entered the nursing home at Miller. Surviving are his wife, Marie of Pierre; five daughters; four sons; two brothers, Antonin of Walthill, Neb., Luke of Salt Lake City; one sister, Milada Miller of Spokane, Wash.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Bedrich and Bennie, five brothers and one sister. From The Rapid City Journal - August 12, 1985
