George E.Beck,73,of Onawa,Iowa,died Saturday,Feb.14,at Burgess Health Center,in Onawa.Services will be 10a.m.Saturday,at St.John's Catholic Church,with Rev.Harry A.McAlphine officiating.Burial in Onawa City Cemetery.George was born Sept.18,1930,in rural Onawa,the son of Royce & Elizabeth(Donnelly)Beck Sr.He was raised in the Onawa area and graduated from Onawa High School in 1948.He entered in the U.S.Army in Sept.1951,and served during the Korean conflict.He was a gunnery sergeant in C Battery,194th Field Artillery in Germany until his honorable discharge in Aug.1953.He married Teresa Pokorny on April 7,1956,at St.John's Catholic Church in Salix,Iowa.He was lifetime farmer in rural Onawa.Member of St.John's Catholic Church and American Legion Grimsley-Thayer Post 502 of Castana,Iowa.Survivors include his beloved wife,Teresa;three sons,Gregory of Sterling,Colo.,Patrick of Onawa,and Richard & Joan of Omaha,Neb.;daughter,Diane Beck of Omaha,Neb.;two granddaughters,Kaitlin and Emily;two sisters,Marie & Arvid Johnson of Onawa,Edna & Dennis Stanislav of Blencoe,Iowa.He preceded in death by his parents;a brother,Royce Jr.;cousin Gail Manchester.
