State Journal-Register, The (Springfield, IL) - Saturday, May 17, 1986: "Ida M. 'Jackie' Esper 65, of Springfield died at 2:15 p.m. Friday at St. John's Hospital North. She was born on Sept. 23, 1920, in Pleasant Plains, the daughter of Sam and Maud Lewis Dunkel. She married Joseph Esper in 1938 and had resided in Springfield since 1943. Mrs. Esper was employed during World War II as a telephone operator at the Air Force Depot at the Illinois State Fairgrounds. She was later employed as an operator by St. John's Hospital and the state of Illinois. She was a member of Kumler United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Richard and Lester Dunkel. Surviving are her husband, Joseph L.; two sons, Larry and Gary Esper, both of Springfield; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Elba (Lela) Gabbert of Cantrall and Mrs. Monsolette Dodd of Tempe, Ariz.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Staab Funeral Home, with burial in Pleasant Plains Cemetery."
