Bio

Lois F. "Grandma Lo" Karlson, 83, of Duluth, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004 in St. Luke's Hospital. She was born on Oct. 2,1920 to Eric and Cora Rhodman in Pierce, Neb. She grew up in Tamarack, McGregor area where she attended school. She returned to Nebraska and married Roy I. Karlson on Jan. 6, 1945. They lived in Nebraska until moving to the Duluth and Proctor area in 1956. She was a bartender and waitress at the Proctor Municipal Bar for many years and most recently an aide at the Proctor/Bay View Latch Key Program. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Proctor, the Lind-Gordon-Berg American Legion Post 106 Auxiliary in Proctor, West Duluth V F W Post 6340 Auxiliary and the Women of The Moose Chapter 585 in Proctor. Lois was a special mother, grandmother and friend to so many people. She also enjoyed baking and listening to the Minnesota Twins, Vikings, UMD and many other sporting events on the radio. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy; sisters: Lillian, Myrtle, Mae and Violet; and brothers: Claude, Cleo, Tommy, Vernon, Cecil and Kermit. Lois is survived by her daughters: Sharon (Leonard) Robinson and Roxann (Daniel) Graber; sons: Gordy (Sandy) Karlson and Galen "Googs" (Jill) Karlson; sister, Delphine Gustafson; foster/god children: Stan and Dale Heuer; grandchildren:, Len and Steve Robinson, Tammy Cozzi, Kim Schweiger, Jody Parks, Jayme Thorson, Eric and Rachel Karlson, Brad and Randy Graber; 14 great-grandchildren; special friend, Julia Pugliese; and many nieces and nephews. Burial in Oneota Cemetery.
