Hilllsboro Reporter Monday, March 1, 2004 VIRGIL BARNES Mr. Virgil J. Barnes, 77, of Whitney died Thursday, February 26, 2004, in Whitney. He was born October 2, 1926, in Snow Ball, Arkansas, son of the late Corbin Elijah and Mattie Jane Tipton Barnes. A retired sea merchant of the United States Coast Guard, he was a member of First Baptist Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8571 of Whitney. He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Survivors include: one daughter, Elizabeth Pentecost and husband, Herman, of Garden City, Georgia; one sister, Ann Beseda of Hillsboro; and two grandsons. Graveside services were held at 9 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2004, at Whitney Memorial Park with Rev. John Carl officiating.
