Betty Mae Volkman Adkins April 19,1929-Feb 4,2012 Betty May Adkins, 82, of North Platte, died Feb. 4, 2012, at Linden Court. Betty was born on April 19, 1929, in Eustis, to Emeal and Edna (Uhlig) Volkman. Betty graduated from Eustis High School. She then graduated from Kearney State College with her teaching degree. Betty married Willard Adkins on April 11, 1950, in North Platte. The couple moved to North Platte in 1969 where Betty taught fifth grade for the North Platte Public Schools, at Jefferson School. She taught for 21 years with North Platte Public Schools, retiring in 1990.Betty was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star, DOES, the American Legion Auxiliary and retired NEA-NSEA. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Willard, on April 15, 1988; a son, Gary, on Dec. 28, 1990; and brothers, Burdette Volkman in 1987 and Gene Volkman in 2009.Services will be on Feb. 8, at Adams & Swanson Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. North Platte Telegraph February 7, 2012
