Bio
Ladislav Josef "Jiggs" Rek was born on 6 January 1920 in Fayetteville, Fayette County, Texas. He was the son of Joseph Rek and Ruzena Wiesner Rek. His mother died from pneumonia less than a month after his birth. Lad was raised for several years by his aunt, his mother's sister, Anna Wiesner Budaus and Annie's husband Adolph Budaus. After then living with his father, step-mother, and half-brother, Lad later returned to live with his aunt Anna and also with his uncle, Frank M. Wiesner. In 1936, when Lad was 16, he joined the Navy for 4 years. In 1940, he came home until WW II started, then he re-joined the Navy. Lad married Lillian Jurecka Mueller, a widow with a child, Waldeen Mueller, from her first marriage. Ladislav Josef Rek died in Houston, Harris County, Texas on 5 August 1978. He was 58 years of age.
