Source: Waterville Advance Publish: July 14, 1937 MRS. ROSA BERAN DIED JULY FIRST AT LE CENTER Mrs. Rosa Beran passed away at 8 p.m. on Thursday evening, July 1, at Le Center, where she had made her home in recent years with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stangler. For the last three years, Mrs. Beran had been an invalid, never having fully recovered from the effects of severe illness of influenza which had weakened her condition. Death was due to chronic bronchitis. Mrs. Beran was in her seventy-second year, having been born in Bohemia on October 10, 1864. She came here with her parents when a child and the greater part of her life had been spent in the village, where for some years she conducted a millinery store in the building erected for that purpose, which is now occupied by Dr. Edwards. Her marriage to Joseph Beran took place in Elysian on April 16th, 1890, and for one year they lived on a farm in Lexington Township, before taking up their residence in this village which had since been their home. Mr. Beran died here in October, 1927. Surviving are one daughter and two sons, Mrs. Henry Stangler of Le Center, Jos. F. Beran of Minneapolis and E.G. Beran of Elysian. Also three grandchildren, Willard, Bernard, and Margaret Stangler, and one niece, Mrs. Anna Kline. Mrs. Beran was a devout member of the Catholic church, and her Christian fortitude was a solace during the long period of illness. In her passing her children mourn the loss of a kind and loving mother, and old friends miss a respected neighbor who has passed to her heavenly reward. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at St. Mary's Catholic church in Le Center, Rev. Fr. Jiracek officiating, and interment made in the family lot in Calvary cemetery at Waterville. Pallbearers were Frank J. Hebl, F.E. Stangler, Peter Pribyl, Michael Koegh, Chester Hobday and John Krenik. Friends and relatives from Elysian, Montgomery, Madison Lake and other points were in attendance at the last rites.
