Dale V. Hightower, 92, formerly of Waco, passed away Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012. A graveside service will be 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery in Dallas with the Rev. Jerry Perrill officiating. Dale was born in Nacogdoches, Texas, to the late John Thomas Hightower Jr. and Ada Jane Langston. He married Vickie Louise Robotti in 1938. During World War II, Dale served in the Army. After the war, he lived with his family in Irving and worked in construction and road building. In 1969, for health reasons, Dale moved to Phoenix, Ariz. There he worked in a drapery business until he retired. Later, after retirement, he worked for the Phoenix ISD and again retired. In 1996, Dale returned to Waco, Texas, again going back to work as a "man of all trades" with The Outdoor Connection. Later years, he lived at Stillwell Retirement, Waco, and at the Wm. R. Courtney Veteran Home in Temple. Dale had a strong faith and always kept an active and faithful membership in a church. At the time of his death, he was a member of Grace Temple Baptist Church. Dale enjoyed hunting in local woods as well as caribou hunting in Canada, Colorado for elk and mountain lion, and New Mexico for bear and deer. He also enjoyed traveling with his son, Floyd. One trip they really enjoyed was dog sledding in the Northern US. But the love of Dale's life was his 1948 blue Chevrolet truck. Dale refurbished the truck by hunting parts, making parts by hand and rigging parts for his truck. He kept the truck running for years. Dale and his Chevy have traveled many a mile from Phoenix to Dallas, Phoenix to Oklahoma, Arkansas and California. The longest trip he made was from Waco to San Antonio to Phoenix to the State of Washington. Then he drove on to Canada and drove straight back to Waco, approximately 4,000 miles that one trip. Dale was preceded in death by his wife; and his sister, Florence Lee Rainer. He is survived by his son, Floyd Hightower and wife, Pat, of Waco; daughter, Rosedale Acevedo and husband, Floyd, of Grand Prairie; grandchildren, Davin and Kimberly Hightower,of Waco, Roger Hulsey and wife, Stacy, of Arlington, and Michael Hulsey and wife, Lisa, of Ovilla; and great-grandchildren, Keaton and Laine Hightower, Jaden, Carson, and Kenzy Hulsey; sister, Ila Belle Hightower, of San Antonio; and many other family members and friends.
