James C. "Jim" Herron, Sr., 86, passed away at Indian Path Medical center following an extended illness. He was born in Hancock County on July 12, 1925 and lived his adult life in Church Hill. He was a member of Old Union United Methodist Church and proudly served his country in the United States Army. Mr. Herron retired with 32 years of service from Bloomingdale Utility District as a Certified Water Distributor Operator. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel and Nancy Herron, brothers; Ermal Smith, Grady Smith, Junior Herron, Virgil Herron, and Lark Herron, sisters; Madge Hicks, Bertha Johnson, and Hazel Herron. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, IvaNell Woods Herron, his two perfect sons; J.C. Herron and his fiancé, Ellen Lane, Terry Herron and his wife and wonderful daughter in law, Karen Herron, his pride and joy granddaughters; Mindy Hunley and her husband, Jeff, Mallory Hall and her husband, Stephan, the loves of his life great grandsons; Kody Hunley and Jackson Hall, and soon to be born great granddaughter, Annabella Hall, brother, J.W. Herron and his wife, Frances, special brother and sister in law, J.R. and Sue Woods, sister in law, Shirley Herron, several nieces and nephews, his puppies, Zip and Copper. Calling hours are from 5 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home of Church Hill. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bob Hults officiating. Special music will be provided by Deborah DeBord. Graveside services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at Church Hill Memory Gardens with Military Honors conducted by the Hawkins County Color Guard. Everyone wishing to attend is asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:45 P.M. Pallbearers will be Jeff Hunley, Stephan Hall, Dennis Smith, Gary Johnson, Keith Herron, and Jerry Herron. Honorary bearers will be June Smith, Kody Hunley, and Jackson Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Old Union United Methodist Church Children's fund.
