Obit from Jacksonville FL Times Union 20 Mar 1914: Live Oak, March 20.- Mr John Wesley Sperring died at his home in this city Tuesday at 1am. He had been in poor health for sometime. He was born in England and came to America with his parents when a lad, settling near Syracuse NY. He moved to Suwannee county in 1883 and settled on the site where he lived until his death. He cultivated his fertile farm on the edge of town and was unusually successful, having a large estate at his death. Of late years he was unable physically, to do much actual work, but his intellect remained keen until the end. The body of the revered old gentleman was laid to rest in the city cemetery, just across the street from his home, Tuesday afternoon. he is survived by a wife and the following twelve sons and daughters: LE Sperring, Mrs Chester Griffin, Mrs HR Dixon, Mrs JB Newman, Mrs RL Helvenston all of Live Oak; Mrs JC Fletcher, Sanford; Mrs OO Davis of Lakeland; WL Sperring of Jacksonville; JW Sperring jr of Umatilla; JH Sperring of Ocala; GC Sperring of Sanford; Frank Sperring of Ocala and twenty grandchildren.
