Bio

IRVING - Helen Brown Mason, 99, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in First Baptist Church of Stratford. Arrangements are by Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home. Mrs. Mason was born May 19, 1904, in Stratford the daughter of J.T. and Eula Brown. She attended Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell, Okla., and West Texas State College in Canyon. She taught in a rural school near Stratford, in Stratford schools, in Optima, Okla., and at schools in and near Copeland, Kan. In 1928, she married Dick Mason, then of Hooker, Okla. For 25 years they lived in Copeland, where Mr. Mason manage the Riffe Bros. elevator. In 1963, the Masons moved to Sun City, Ariz., just 10 days before Mr. Mason died. Helen was an excellent bridge player and enjoyed traveling widely with her sister, Hilma Cleveland, who joined her in Sun City in 1973. They moved to Longview in 1990 and Irving in 1996. Survivors include two sisters, Hazel Martin of Longview and Hilma Cleveland of Irving; a son-in-law, Donald Dickerson of Fort Worth; three grandchildren, John and Kathleen Dickerson of Santa Fe, N.M., and Bob Dickerson of Amarillo; her nieces and nephews including Maureen Plunk and Katie Allen, both of Stratford, Marlene Knapp Morris of Amarillo, Patricia Martin Watkins of Longview and Joe Cleveland of Irving.
