Bio
Born in Hassenbuttel, Kr. Süderdithmarschen, Holstein. Her parents are Dierk Detlef Schoolmann and Magdalena Schenk. Obituary - The Scribner Rustler - 22 March 1928 Mrs. Hanna Wagner, a resident of this community since the early '80's, passed away last Friday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Peter J. Bauer, south of Scribner. Until about four years ago she had enjoyed good health for one of her advanced years, but during this latter period her health had been gradually failing through infirmities caused by her advanced years. Her death came as a result of a slight stroke of paralysis. Hanna Schuman was born at Holstein, Germany, on April 21, 1839, and passed away on March 16, 1928, at the age of 88 years, 10 months and 25 days. In 1868 she left her native land to make her home in America and settled in Wisconsin. On July 19th of that year, she was united in marriage to Claus Wagner at Holstein, Wis. To this union were born five children, two of whom preceded their parents in death. After two years of residence in Wisconsin, Mr. and Mrs. Wagner came to Nebraska, locating in Fremont in 1870. In the early '80's, they settled on the farm south of town now owned and occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Peter J. Bauer. There they remained until 1900, when deciding to retire from active life and work of the farm they moved to Scribner to make their home in their declining years. Mr. Wagner passed away on May 5, 1908, and Mrs. Wagner maintained her residence in Scribner until four years ago, when her failing health needed care and attention, and she went to live with her daughter, Mrs. Peter J. Bauer. Mrs. Wagner was a woman, of fine character and amiable disposition, ever ready to do good whenever an opportunity presented itself, and in so doing, never considered that she was doing anything out of the ordinary, or more than she should do for those whom it was her privilege to serve. She was a devoted wife and mother, and in her passing her children have suffered a great loss. Those remaining to mourn her loss are her three children, August J. Wagner of Central City, Mrs. Peter J. Bauer of Scribner, an Mrs. Elizabeth Bentz of Norfolk. The funeral was held Monday afternoon with services conducted at 2 o'clock at the Peter J. Bauer farm home, Rev. Joseph Toms, officiating. The remains were laid to rest in Pebble cemetery beside those of the husband.
