Kate was married to Steve Ciemny and this union was blessed with two children: Richard and Sue. On July 26, 1961, Kate was united in marriage with John D. "Jack" Ritter in Columbus, Nebraska. Jack welcomed Kate's two children and the family moved to Anthony to make their home in 1961. Kate and Jack shared a love for horses. They spent their lives' raising and racing thoroughbreds. Kate groomed the horses and Jack trained them and worked as a Ferrier for many stables. They moved back and forth from Anthony to Nebraska in the summers during the racing season. Along with training horses, Jack and Kate helped raise many children and became affectionately known as "Papa" and "Granny." After Jack passed away on November 17, 2011, Kate's health began failing quickly. She moved into the Anthony Community Care Center where she was lovingly cared. She became a member of the Red Hats at ACCC. On Thursday, January 19, 2012, Kate passed away at the Anthony Community Care Center at the age of 81. Along with Jack, Kate was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Harold; sister, Vernie; and one great grandson, Drew Ciemny.
