Caroline Margaret (Goeken) Heywood, 95, Lincoln, passed away Wednesday, January 18, 2012, in Lincoln. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 22nd, from 4 to 7 p.m. with Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Visitation continues Monday, January 23rd, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Butherus, Maser & Love, 40th & A, Lincoln. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 23rd, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Teresa Catholic Church at 36th & Randolph, Lincoln, with Monsignor Joseph Nemec officiating. Cremated remains will be buried in St. Mary's Cemetery at Ridgeley Township, Dodge Co., Neb. at a later date. Memorials are suggested to Saint Teresa Catholic Church and the Adoration Convent. Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. Condolences can be emailed to www.bmlfh.com. Caroline was born March 26, 1916 in West Point, the daughter of Henry and Catherine (Maly) Goeken. She graduated from Guardian Angels High School in West Point. On February 1, 1940, she married Casper N. Heywood at West Point. They farmed near Scribner until his death on June 30, 1949 that left her with five small children to raise. In 1949, she moved to West Point where she lived until 1968 when she moved to Lincoln. Upon completing her classes in 1954 as a licensed practical nurse, she worked at St. Francis Memorial Hospital and West Point Nursing Home in West Point. After moving to Lincoln she worked at Bryan Hospital until she retired in 1981. She was very active in St. Teresa Catholic Church in Lincoln in the Legion of Mary, Catholic Daughters, Altar Society, and the Third Order of St. Francis. She spent many years volunteering to help the poor and those in need. Surviving are daughters, Karen (Leon) Straub, Appleton, Wis.; Marilyn (Robert) Peterson, Lincoln; and Jean (Ed) Hestermann, Martell; and sons, Leonard (Carol) Louisville, Ky., and David of Fremont; sisters, Genevieve Gerken, West Point, and Magdalen Seeman, Lincoln; and a brother, Jerome (Gladys), Omaha; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband; daughter-in-law, Terri Heywood; brothers, Wenzel, Andrew, Tom, and Ben, and sisters, Sister Adele, OSF and Sister Frances Mary, OSF, and sisters-in-law, Mirella Goeken and Julia Goeken, and brothers-in-law, Ed Seeman and Leo Gerken.
