Bio
Ann Jane (Casteel) Smith was born in Pennsylvania, November 1, 1849; died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emma Bartlett of Angus, Nebr., on March 23, 1919, aged 70 years, 4 months, 22 days. Mrs. Smith had been at the home of Mrs. Bartlett, where she has spent the past winter as an invalid. She was united in marriage to Martin Smith on June 3, 1869, and to this union eight children were given, three of whom, Mrs. Emma Bartlett of Angus; Mr. Fred Smith and Mrs. Maggie Jewell of Doniphan; remain to mourn her passing. There also survive her two brothers, Milton Casteel of San Jose, Calif., and Will Casteel of Phillips, Nebr.; also six grand children, two great grand children, and many friends who have known her for years. The funeral was conducted March 26th from the home of the son, Fred Smith of Donipahn, Nebr., Rev. F. McP. Bayles officiating, and interment was made in the Phillips cemetery (sic) near Phillips, by the side of her husband who had preceded her to that Great Beyond.
