Martha (Ripper) Kalich, 95, passed away at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital after a brief stay on January 17, 2012. Martha was born in Weimar, Texas on October 27, 1916 and baptized at St. Michaels Church in Weimar. She attended school through the 8th grade in Holman, Texas. She spent her youth in the Weimar, La Grange and Schulenburg area. In 1951, she married Waldo Kalich in Schulenburg, Texas. They spent the rest of their married life in Houston. She was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Spring Branch. She is preceded in death by her husband, Waldo Kalich, brother, Henry Ripper, parents, Edward and Annie Ripper. She is survived by her sister-in-laws, Georgia Kalich and Irene Svrcula of Schulenburg, numerous nieces, nephews and other loving family and special neighbor, Mary Lee Machacek, who provided loving care and companionship. The Kostak family, for whom she babysat for many years, has also been very dear to her heart. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with a Vigil Service at 6:00 pm at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 8825 Kempwood Drive, Houston, Texas 77080. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 20, 2012, at 10:00 am at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 8825 Kempwood Drive, Houston, Texas 77080. Interment will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jerome Catholic Church or a charity of your choice .
