Asleep in Jesus's peaceful rest whose waking is superbly blest. February 5, 1904 The Commercial Death of Mr. Thomas Last Tuesday night Mr. John J. Thomas died at his home in this city, having been stricken with paralysis for about a week. He was buried in the Odd Fellows cemetery on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. M.C. Hutton conducting the last sad funeral rites. Mr. Thomas was born in Galveston, December 22, 1830, and was once a citizen of Corpus Christi, and served in the Mexican War. He was a Confederate soldier, and moved to Georgetown in 1887. He leaves an aged wife, having married Miss Fannie Fraf in 1852, who had just arrived in Galveston from Switzerland - also five children. To them the Commercial extends its deepest sympathy in the loss of husband and father.
