Mass of Christian Burial for 82-year-old Lad R. Brichacek, of Schuyler, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Visitation will be held at the Svoboda Funeral Home North Chapel from 1-8 p.m. today, with the family present starting at 5 p.m. and from 9-9:45 a.m. Saturday. A wake service and rosary will be held at 7 p.m. today. Burial will be in the Schuyler Cemetery. Ladislav Richard Brichacek was born Feb. 12, 1929, in the Heun area of Colfax County to Lad and Ella (Wachal) Brichacek. He attended Colfax County rural school district 15 and Fishers School. He married LaVerna Zoubek on April 3, 1956, at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, in Schuyler, and they farmed in Midland Precinct until moving to Schuyler in 2002. Lad loved the farm and working on his farm equipment and doing carpentry work. He and LaVerna enjoyed many bus trips and occasionally going to casinos. He loved to eat her bakery and cookies. Lad served several terms on the District #28 school board and was secretary of the local telephone company and helped string the lines in their area of the county. Lad died Jan. 11, 2012, at the Golden LivingCenter in Schuyler. Lad is survived by his wife, LaVerna, of Schuyler; two sons, John (Bonnie) Brichacek, and Edward (Betty) Brichacek, both of Schuyler; one daughter, Lisa Brichacek, of Wahoo; three grandchildren, Matthew (Cassi) Brichacek, and Peter (Amber) Brichacek, both of Omaha, and Nicholas Brichacek, of Memphis, Tenn.; two step-grandchildren, Jesse and Jamie Schaal; great-granddaughter, Haylie Brichacek; two step-great-grandchildren, Mason Schaal and Candace Aquila; and brother, Lloyd (Betty) Brichacek, of Schuyler. He is preceded in death by one brother, LaVern (1972); and one great-granddaughter, Kayleigh Schaal. Family suggest memorials to family choice or Schuyler Historical Society.
