Original burial at Ballard's Plantation, Madison Parish, Louisiana. Disinterred in 1866 and reinterred at Vicksburg National Cemetery, Vicksburg, Warren Co., Miss.
United States Civil War Company G 16th Regiment Indiana Infantry Addison S. McConnell died at Young's Point, Louisiana during the Civil War. Union troops were camped there during late 1862 and through 1863. Young's Point was used as a major Union supply depot and trans-shipping point. It had an observable influence on the direction and conduct of the Vicksburg Campaign. The inability of the Confederates to destroy the vital Union supply depot at Young's Point and thus force Major General Ulysses S. Grant to loosen his grip on Vicksburg contributed to the ultimate surrender of the city on July 4, 1863.
