ALMA ROACH: 1913 -1986 Alma Alice Roach of Yampa, died in Routt Memorial Hospital on June 9, 1986 at the age of 73. Alma was born in South Dakota to Julia and James Novak on Feb. 13, 1913. She married Garnett E. "Shorty" Roach on Jan. 30, 1931 and then moved to Yampa in April 1943. Although she never had any children of her own, she adopted two foster children. She was active in the community, helping with the first Yampa Fire Truck; was a charter member of the Egeria Roping Club; a Boy Scout leader; and especially loved the outdoors. Services were conducted by Pastor Robert Swift at Root Mortuary Chapel on June 13. Memorial songs were "Beyond the Sunset" and "The Lord's Prayer." Pallbearers consisted of all her friends and neighbors. She is survived by her husband of Yampa; foster son, Keny Bower of Washington state; foster daughter, Mrs. Bryce (Bonnie) Olivers of Bloomfield, N.M.; granddaughter, Cena Schieffer of Dickinson, N.D.; grandson, Mel Olivers and two great-granddaughters, Amber and Shanon Olivers, all of Bloomfield, N.M. -- The Steamboat Pilot, Volume 101, Number 47, June 19, 1986. ~~ Mothers name listed as Hattie Matousek on birth record.
