Charlie was the son of Jordan Johnson and Mary "Polly" Dowdy/Johnson. He was married to Lavina "Viney" Harris on 11/30/1859 in Lexington, Henderson County, Tennessee. This union produced twelve children. To see a list of the children's names, see Viney's page. ----------- Private, Companies A & C, 7th Tennessee Cavalry, enlisted in Lexington, TN on 8/28/1862, furnishing his own horse and equipment and was due a $100 bounty for enlistment. Johnson was one of the 100 or more men who went AWOL from the forts on the Miss/Tenn line in June 1863 and was captured at Jack's Creek, TN on 6/20/1863. He arrived at prison in Richmond, VA on 7/10/1863 but was paroled on 7/14/1863 through City Point, VA. He rejoined the regiment on 10/20/63. He was discharged with the regiment when it disbanded at Nashville, TN on 8/9/1865. In December 1892 he applied for an invalid pension from Texas. His wife, Vina Harris Johnson, applied for a widow's pension in November 1918.
