Bio

Lois M. Pfeifer, 82, of Madison, formerly of Humphrey, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at the Countryside Home in Madison. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Catholic Church, in Humphrey, with Father John Andrews officiating. Burial will be in the St. Francis Cemetery in Humphrey. Visitation will be 4-8:30 p.m. Thursday, with a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. scripture service, continuing 9-10:30 a.m. Friday, all at the church. Lois was born March 2, 1929, in Leigh, to Frank and Ella J. (Herink) Reichmuth. She was educated at Leigh Public Schools and graduated from Wayne State College with a degree in education. She married Robert L. Pfeifer on Sept. 14, 1950, in Leigh. They lived in the Leigh and Humphrey communities. She taught school in Platte County rural district school and later substitute school teaching. She had served as director of St. Francis School Cafeteria and was a den mother in scouting and was a 4-H Leader. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters Of America Court 1404. She enjoyed cooking, baking and flowers, and was active in St. Francis Parish and community events. She is survived by her husband, Robert, of Humphrey; children and spouses, Lee (Lauren) Pfeifer, of Midland, S.C., Stephen Pfeifer, of Alexandria, Va., Kurt Pfeifer, of Omaha, Amy (Rich) Beran, of Gretna, Beth (Charles) Chevalier, of Springfield, Mary (Virgil) Preister, of Humphrey; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Alvin (Donnette) Reichmuth, of Humphrey, Quentin (Dorothy) Reichmuth, of Overland Park, Kan., Frank (Ruth) Reichmuth, of Leigh, Ardeth Hayes, of Osceola, Sister Monica Reichmuth, RSM, of Omaha, Theresa (Tom) Kumpf, of Columbus; brother-in-law, Duane Svehla, of Clarkson; and sister-in-law, Loretta Reichmuth, of Leigh. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Freddie and Gerard; three brothers, Rev. Roland Reichmuth S.J., Brother Marion Reichmuth, S.J., Richard Reichmuth; two sisters, Sister Jane Reichmuth, RSM, Marjorie Svehla; brother-in-law, Don Hayes; and granddaughter, Anne Marie Beran. Duesman Funeral Chapel, in Humphrey, is in charge of arrangements.
