Bio

COEBURN, Va. Georgia Robinette Smith, 99, passed away Dec. 21, 2011, at her home. She was born in the Dry Fork Community of Wise County the daughter of George and Grace Pate Robinette who preceded her in death; also her sisters, Ira and Ruth Robinette; her brother, Tom; and his wife, Pauline all of Coeburn; her husband, Dave Smith; and a daughter, Gail Sells of Chattanooga, Tenn. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Georgia was a teacher in Wise County Schools for 42 years; a graduate of Radford College and received her B.S. from Milligan College. She was a member of the Coeburn United Methodist Church for many years; Coeburn United Methodist Women; held many offices in the church as long as her health allowed. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Wise County; Virginia Education Association and Wise County Education Association. She was a correspondent for the Coalfield Progress and she was a story teller and loved telling folk stories and tales to civic groups and children. She was a member and Past President of Coeburn Women's Club. Surviving are her daughter, Nancy Hincher Harrod of Coeburn; six grandchildren, Deborah Grant of Johnson City, Tenn., David Hincher and wife, Lynn of Stafford, Va., Mark Hincher and wife, Marti of Las Vegas, Nev., Mike Hincher and wife, Kathy of Lebanon, Va., Andrea Sells of Dahlonega, Ga., and Monte Sells and wife, Raine of Dunlap, Tenn.; and 10 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, 1 to 2 p.m. at the Coeburn United Methodist Church with Funeral Services at 2 p.m. with Pastor Barry K. Sarver officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Acres Cemetery Coeburn. Men of the Church will serve as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Georgia Smith Educational Scholarship Holston Conference Foundation; or the Coeburn United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 638 , Coeburn, VA 24230.
