Services for Jack McCool, 88, Athens, are scheduled for 11:00 AM Thursday at First Christian Church with Rev. Bill Hauck officiating. Burial will follow in Athens Cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home. Mr. McCool died December 18, 2011 in Athens. He was born December 17, 1923 in Chandler to the late William Joseph and Ethel Cecil McCool. Jack was a 1943 graduate of Athens High School then attended Lon Morris College in Jacksonville. He was a long time member of First Christian Church and was Elder Emeritus. Jack was in the department store business most of his working life. He worked for K. Wolens Department Store 14 years then later was manager of Mitchell's Department store for four years. In 1973 he entered into partnership with Carney Kirby of Malakoff in a family owned business. In 1977 he purchased Mr. Kirby's interest and owned and managed the store as McCool's Department Store for a number of years. In his semi- retirement years he worked for J.C. Penney Department Store many years. Jack was preceded in death by his first wife Joan Hutcheson McCool December 18, 2003, a son, Donly Jack McCool December 16, 2005, and sisters, Stella Mills and Shirley Townsend. Survivors include wife, Oleta Boyd McCool, Athens, son, Chris McCool and wife Martha, Rockwall, daughter, Dian Nelson, Athens, brother, Gerald McCool, Athens, five grandchildren, Brad McCool, Brian McCool, Jamie Ryan, Andrew Nelson, Wade McCool, five great grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces, stepdaughter, Kay Boyd. Pallbearers are David McCool, Brian McCool, Kevin McCool, Brad McCool, Wade McCool and Andrew Nelson. Honorary Pallbearers include Ronnie Spencer, Jerry Spencer, Neil Hunter, Steve Spencer, Bobby Strain, T.C. Brown, Micky Spencer, Joe Holloway, and Billy Si McCaleb.
