Grace L. Vollmer, 91, of Kearney died Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at her home. Grace was born July 18, 1920, in Riverdale to Arthur and Louise (Wermuth) Walter. On Oct. 28, 1944, she married Miles Vollmer in Kearney. He preceded her in death. Survivors are: son, Oren Vollmer and his wife, Joyce, of Gibbon; daughter, Sharon Holthaus and her husband, Galen, of Marysville, Kan.; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; foster children, Kathy Garthart of Appleton, Wis., Larry Cornelius of Omaha and Tammy Golden and a host of relatives and friends. Grace graduated from Kearney High School and then attended The University of Nebraska at Kearney where she earned her teachers certificate. Grace taught school for several years and then helped Miles on the farm. Grace was a member of Kearney Evangelical Free Church, Elizabeth Valley Kensington and Hickson Chicks square dance club. Grace enjoyed gardening and also raising dairy cattle. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. Burial was in the Kearney Cemetery, Kearney, NE.
