Barbara Ruth Lickteig was born December 10, 1922, in Wesley, Iowa, the daughter of Bernard and Ruth (Lillie) Schrauth. She grew up in Wesley where she also attended school, graduating from the Wesley High School in 1940. After her schooling she worked at the Wesley Exchange State Bank for a short time. On November 14, 1944, Barbara was united in marriage to George Lickteig at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. They lived and farmed near Bancroft and in 1963 moved to Wesley where they continued farming until retirement. In 1992, George and Barbara moved to Lost Island where they lived in the summer and since 1986, they had been spending their winters in Fort Myers, Florida. Barb enjoyed flowers, bird watching, listening to music played by her family and driving the boat when George water skied while they were in Florida. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven, Catholic Daughters of America and a past 4-H leader. Barbara died Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was 85. She is survived by her children, Mark Lickteig of Plymouth, MN; Wendy Marie Lickteig of Ruthven; granddaughter, Lindsay Lickteig of Plymouth, MN; special friend of Mark, Lisa Anderson of Coon Rapids, MN; sister, Lillian (Dave) Williams of Bradenton, FL; brother, Bernard (Kay) Schrauth of Emmetsburg; brothers-in-law, Albert (Marie) Lickteig of Algona, Robert (Mary) Lickteig of Bozeman, MT; Thomas (Marilyn) Lickteig of Waukee, sisters-in-law, Theresa Berger of Algona, Marjorie Kenyon of Whittemore and Joyce Lickteig of Algona and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Paul Schrauth; sister, Katherine Byrne and an infant sister, Flossie Schrauth. farmed near Bancroft and in 1963 moved to Wesley where they continued farming until retirement.
