Bio

Arnold James "AJ" Kocurek passed away December 1 in the arms of his devoted wife Casey, while on vacation in Mexico. Born May 21st, 1937 to Arnold and Irene Kocurek he led life fast and furious with a life filled with Harleys, Hot rods and other high performance cars. He bought his first motorcycle, an Indian Scout to use on his paper route in Alamo Heights. When he was 14 years old he bought the frame of what became his notorious 1933 Ford Coupe that he built from the ground up. It was his high school car that he raced and won more than 100 trophy's at car shows in San Antonio, throughout Texas, Oklahoma and New Orleans. He was one of the original founders of The Gear Grinders Car Club. After graduating from Alamo Heights High School he attended St. Edwards and Marquette Universities before graduating with a BA and BBA/MBA from St. Mary's University. His Master Thesis on investing became a training manual for the brokerage firm of Rauscher Pierce where he worked before retiring. He also taught a graduate school course on business and investing as an Associate Professor at St. Mary's University. He spent his retirement years riding his Harleys, driving his fast cars and loving his precious St. Bernard dogs. He traveled to Mazatlan Mexico every year where he had been going to since the 1950s with his father to go fishing as a teenager. He often said he would like to die in Mazatlan a place he loved. He wanted to tell everyone, "I have had so much fun in my life I almost feel guilty". He was larger than life and has left a huge hole in the hearts of all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father Arnold and brothers Barry and Bobby. He is survived by his 99 year old amazing mother, Irene, his sister, wife, children and grandsons. SERVICES His family and close friends will celebrate his life Friday. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday December 10, 2011 with Father Carlos B. Velasquez officiating in the Chapel at Mission Burial Park North, 20900 IH. 10 West with burial to follow on site.
