He was the son of Albert A. and Laura Virginia Hodges Russell. His parents are buried in Kirk Cemetery in Limestone County. Martin retired from Glass Containers Corporation. He was a member of Westwood Baptist Church. He was very active in Masonic affairs, being a member Palestine Lodge No. 31 AF&AM, Palestine Chapter No. 10 RAM, Willis Stewart Council No. 20, RS&SM, and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Martin shares a stone with his wife, Alma Clara Wartzeck Russell. They are buried in the Masonic Garden of Roselawn Park. Their daughter, Helen Louise Russell Lively, is buried in Roselawn Park. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was residing in Palestine at the time of his death in a local hospital. He was survived by his wife, Alma; three daughters, Mildred Wren and Doris Kirksey, both of Mabank, and Helen Louise Russell Trammell of Palestine; two sons, Bob Russell of Amarillo and Rev. David Albert Russell of Hawkins; two brothers, Elmer Russell of Mexia and Doc Russell of Sinton; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren. His obituary was published in the Palestine Herald-Press, Tuesday, 14 April 1987.
