Bio

Carolyn E. Novotny, 68 years, of Fremont, NE, died Saturday, December 3, 2011 at Nye Legacy in Fremont. She was born June 15, 1943 in North Bend, NE to Victor and Marie (Racek) Sloup. Carolyn gave her life to serving the needs of her family and many others. During her high school years she worked part-time at Merrick Manor as an aid. She graduated from Prague High School in 1961 and then attended Creighton College of Nursing and received her LPN license. In 1964 she moved to Fremont and worked at Dodge County Memorial Hospital on the third floor. Carolyn Sloup married Leonard Novotny June 13, 1964 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cedar Hill and then took time off work to start her family of three children. In 1968 she returned to work at the hospital in the OB Department, where she helped many babies to get a start in life. In 1976 her mother lost a battle with cancer and Carolyn took leave, looking for a new career to pursue. In November of 1978 she started a long career of teaching early child development at Dodge County Head Start, where she put many children on their way to quality education. Carolyn was always there to accept the most challenging child into her classroom and by the end of that year those children loved her very much. In August 2011 she retired because of health issues. She looked forward to enjoying her grandchildren, baking in her new kitchen and she stayed tuned to the cooking channels and her favorite "soap". She enjoyed visiting with her friends.
