Bio

Son of Joseph Hopwood Occupation: Reporter San Antonio Light December 22, 1915 Joseph C. Hopwood, 53 years old, well known in San Antonio, died suddenly at 8:15 o'clock Tuesday night. He was standing in front of the court house when he was suddenly taken violently ill and fell to the sidewalk. G. O. Brown, who was standing nearby rushed to his aid and called the county physician, Dr. Berry. Mr. Hopwood was taken to a drug store where he died about twenty minutes later. Several doctors arrived at the store a few moments after his death. An inquest to determine the cause of his death will be held Wednesday according to the orders of Justice of the Peace Ben Fisk. Mr. Hopwood was a native of England but had lived in Texas for the past thirty years. Before coming to San Antonio he lived at Elmendorf, where he was constable for a number of years. Upon moving here he worked in numerous capacities at the court house and lately had been a reporter on the Commercial Recorder. It is said that he was subject to such attacks of illness and that he suffered one about three months ago. In a moment of consciousness, before his death he realized his condition and said that he knew that he was going to die. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Addie Hopwood and a number of children.Funeral arrangments have not been completed and are in charge of the Shelley-Loring Undertaking Company.
