Bio

Reatha L. (Manchester) Bridge Miller, of Kearney died Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at St. John's Good Samaritan Center. Reatha was born May 10, 1914, to Edwin and Dora M. (Naeve) Manchester at their home in North Loup. Reatha was preceded in death by her first husband, Delbert Bridge, and her second husband, George Miller. Survivors are: son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Judy Bridge of Kearney; daughter and son-in-law, Ginger and Vern Sorenson of Pasco, Wash.; sister, Lois Clark of California; grandchildren, Greg and wife, Deb, Bridge and Brett and wife, Jen, Bridge of Kearney, and Michael and wife, Lori, Sorenson of Pasco, Wash.; and great-grandchildren, Aaron and Emily, Noah and Madeline Bridge of Kearney. Reatha was the youngest of six siblings, Gerald, Lloyd, Leonard, Lois and Ilda. Reatha grew up in North Loup and graduated from North Loup High School. She was awarded a normal training certificate for teaching and taught at the Fussyville School District in Valley County. On Feb. 14, 1934, she married Delbert Bridge in North Loup. Most of her life was devoted to farm life in Sherman and Valley Counties in Nebraska. After farm life, Reatha worked at Vera's Style Shoppe and Vodenal Pharmacy in North Loup. Mr. Bridge died in 1971. She then moved to Grand Island and worked for the Hovland-Swanson Department Store. Reatha married George Miller on Oct. 31, 1981, in Cannon City, Colo. They lived there until moving to Gibbon in 1998. Her second husband died in 1998. She then moved to Kearney and lived at Cambridge Court until she moved to St. John's Good Samaritan Center. Reatha was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church and also the United Methodist Women. She had been a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the B.P.O Does Lodge. She had been a 4-H leader. She loved to play cards and belonged to several card clubs. In her younger days, she enjoyed square dancing. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by three brothers and one infant sister. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, North Loup, NE.
