Son of John Wilson Porter of Hix, Burleson County.
Charles Clark Porter was born on May 16, 1866 in Hix, Burleson County, Texas. He was the fourth and last child born to the union of John Wilson Porter and Jeffa Elizabeth Duncan. His mother died when he was 7 months old and, about a year later, his father married a second time to Ellen O. Grisham who raised Charles until she died when he was 15 years old. After 11 grades of prep schooling, he attended enough college to become a school teacher. On December 13, 1897 he married at the age of 31 a fellow teacher, Emma Viola Tyson of the Maysfield community in nearby Milam County. Over the next five years they had three children: Paul Ewing, Jennie Angeline and John Buren. Then, in 1905 they had a pair of twin boys, Guy and Glen, who both died from pneumonia within 5 days of each other at the age of 3 months. Just six weeks after the twins died, Charles Clark also died, leaving Emma a widow with three young children. Charles' Texas Death Certificate shows that he was 39 years, 7 months and 6 days old when he died on Dec 22 1905. This computes to a date of birth of May 16, 1866. Charles, Emma and the twins are buried together behind the Tyson Family iron fence in Pebble Grove Cemetery between Branchville and Maysfied in Milam County, Texas.
