Ernie was born to Frank and Vlasta Novosad Wentrcek in Shiner, Texas. The family moved to Robertson County in 1930. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Bryan in 1945. He attended Texas A&M University and retired from the Texas Engineering Extension Service in 1988 as Associate Director for Business Affairs after 40 years of service. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Medical Administration Corps and the U.S. Army Finance Corps. He was one of the organizers of First Federal Savings & Loan in Bryan in 1965 and served on the board of directors from 1965 to 2002, when the bank merged with State Bank of La Grange. He owned W&W General Contractors Inc. and W&W Real Estate Co. In 1977, he helped organize Bryan-College Station S.P.J.S.T. Lodge 189 (Slovanská Podporujicí Jednota Statu Texas, or the Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas). He served as president of the organization several times and served on the Supreme Lodge Finance Committee for 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Billie Faye Wentrcek; three sons, Ernie, Gary and Larry Wentrcek, and his sister Gladys. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his son David Wayne Wentrcek. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. John Gantt and Rev. Rudy Junek at Hope Evangelical Free Church of College Station, Texas, where he was a member.
