Bio
Jesse Albert Barnason, the son of Ulah (Pritts) and Perry Barnason, was born north of Guide Rock, Nebraska on the farm April 6, 1924. Jesse departed this life on Monday, November 28, 2011 at his home in Red Cloud, Nebraska. A lifelong resident of Webster county, Jess attended school east of the family farm and frequently rode a cow to school. He graduated from the Red Cloud High School with the class of 1942. Jess met Alta May Wilson at the Bladen County Fair and they were married February 23, 1948 at Ord, Nebraska. They made their home back on the family farm where this union was blessed with two daughters, Cindy Diane on November 11, 1957, and Connie Jean on December 15, 1963. Jess cherished his life on the farm, working the land and raising livestock. He enjoyed attending area auctions and visiting with his many friends. There were times when they stayed on the farm for a whole month because of snow and mud, and they couldn't travel by cars, as the roads were not yet graveled. They could only get around by horse, wagon and tractor. They had a farm auction on March 22, 2003 and moved into Red Cloud to live. Jess, however, continued to raise a few cattle for beef for his family and friends. It was his joy to drive out to his parents' old farm site and feed his cows and favorite dog, Buddy. Jess remembers when he had hearts problems in February of 1998, and collapsed. Buddy stayed by his side protecting him from the cows until help could arrive. Buddy remains on the family farm since the farm auction, and is still there hanging out waiting for the warm friendly smile and daily table scraps from his faithful owner. Left to treasure his memory are his loving wife, Alta of Red Cloud; daughters, Cindy Barnason of Ft. Collins, Colorado, and Connie Holsworth and husband, Mike, of Rapid City, South Dakota; two granddaughters, Megan Holsworth of Rapid City, and Jesica Holsworth of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and a host of relatives and friends. Interment was in the Red Cloud Cemetery, Red Cloud, NE.
