Arnold B. Coufal, 83, of Grants Pass died Sunday, April 13, 1997, at Royale Gardens Health and Rehabilitation Center. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hull & Hull Funeral Directors chapel with Ron Hayworth officiating. Interment will follow at Granite Hill Cemetery. He was born Nov. 4, 1913, in Brainard, Neb. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy and was wounded at Iwo Jima. He received the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and the Victory Ribbon. On Dec. 12, 1966, in Winterhaven, Calif., he married the former Lois Cooper who preceded in death. He lived in Denver, Colo., most of his life. He worked as a machinist most of his life. Several of the companies he worked for included Burgmaster, Inc., Sundstrand Company, Lambs Grays Harbor and Western Gear. He moved to Grants Pass in 1971 from Bellflower, Calif. He worked as a wood craftsman for Sevylor Oars and Paddles in Rogue River. Coufal was a member of the International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers Lodge No. 311. He especially enjoyed woodworking. Survivors include a son, Arnell Coufal of Littleton, Colo.; a daughter, Jeaneen Coufal of Augusta, Kan.; two daughters, Cherie Wier of Grants Pass and Vonnie Forqueran of Redmond; two sons, Dennis Lorentz of Citrus Heights, Calif., and Gary Forqueran of Barstow, Calif.; a brother, Virgil Coufal of Platteville, Colo.; an aunt, Lucille Pavlick of Nebraska; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. obit from contributor #47221397
