Bio

Rev. Robert Cecil Brother Robert Earl Cecil moved on to glory November 21, 2011 at his home in Corsicana, Texas at the age of 92. Brother R.E. was born January 30, 1919 to parents Brother J.R. Cecil and Cleo Miller Cecil in Willow, Oklahoma. He was born again August, 1933 and later baptized at Springcreek Baptist Church, Willow, Oklahoma. He answered God's call to preach the first Sunday in December, 1938 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church ABA, Rogers, Arkansas. With that beginning, he preached most Sunday's in various churches, until a friend and missionary in North Louisiana asked him to fill in. Later, he was called to Couchwood Baptist Church in Cotton Valley, Louisiana, as part-time pastor and was ordained to preach on April 4, 1945. A short time later, Midway MBC in Dry Prong, Louisiana, called him to pastor their church. Years went by with him pastoring various churches and as an Associational Missionary for Spring Hill Association in North Louisiana. During his lifetime, he pastored churches in Pineville, Montgomery, and Mansfield, Louisiana; Mt Enterprise, Sadler, Hubbard, Lubbock, Houston, Clute, and Paris, Texas; Greeley, Colorado; Seminole, Oklahoma; and finally spending the past 28 years at Hopewell MBC, Navarro, Texas. The first Sunday of February 2010 he retired from pastoral duties due to the condition of his health. Brother R.E. Cecil attended Columbia Bible School, Magnolia, Arkansas, for two years and dropped out to marry Lena Irene Grantham. In 1952, Brother Cecil received a Master in Theology degree from Texas Baptist Institute-Seminary in Henderson, Texas. Brother Cecil received his Doctorate of Ministerial Endurance on December 7, 2004. Brother Cecil served as Clerk of Associations of Navarro County, Mid-Western Association of Colorado and Springhill Association of Louisiana. He was the representative of the American Baptist Association Mexican Baptist Institute and devoted 38 years to missionary work in Mexico. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Lena Irene Grantham Cecil; second wife, Mamie Howell Cecil; parents, J. R. Cecil and Cleo Miller Cecil; sisters, Ora Belle Keeling and Ophelia Norris; grandson, Thomas Earl Cecil; sons, Marvin Cleont Cecil in 2009, and Charles Milton Cecil on November 8, 2011. Children: Marvin Cleante CECIL (3 Jul 1941-24 Feb 2009) Charles Milton CECIL (10 Mar 1944-8 Nov 2011) Annie Lanelle CECIL (2 Jul 1950-Living) He is survived by his wife Colleen of 7 years; daughter, Lanelle Canter and husband Claude of Tampa, Florida; daughter-in-law, Debi Cecil of Whitney; step-daughter, Karen French and husband Kenzie of Corsicana; and step-son, Jerry Stroud and wife Elizabeth of Corsicana; grandchildren, Glenn Cecil of Springdale, Arkansas, Tisha Luna and Dawn Reid of Winfield, Kansas, Ricky and Greg Cecil of Copperas Cove, Alicia Currie of Baytown, Emily Cecil of Whitney, John and Lester Graves and Tina Centeno of Tampa, Florida, Tanya Wilson of Lakeland, Florida, Frank Allen, Daniel Allen, and Gillian Morrison of Corsicana; brother, Norval Cecil of Hamburg, Arkansas; sister, Flossie Brown and husband Walter of Madison, Mississippi. Survivors also include with 25 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the Texas Baptist Institute-Seminary at P.O. Box 570, Henderson, TX 75653-0570 or charity of choice. Visitation with the family will be held at 12:00 – 2:00 PM Friday, November 25, 2011 at Corley Funeral Home. Services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 25, 2011 at Corley Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Charles McBryde and Brother Mike Russell officiating. Burial will be Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 2:30PM at State Line Cemetery in Bradley Arkansas.
