Bio

Alvin Lee Goss, 49-year-old truck driver for the Mayfield Grain and Feed Co., of Dalhart, was found dead at the wheel of his truck about 5 o'clock yesterday afternoon just outside Sanford on the Borger-Sanford highway. Attending physicians said he died of a heart attack. Sheriff Vern Underhill, who investigated the death, was in Dalhart today making arrangements for the funeral with Goss' parents. Goss was found by a Phillips Petroleum truck driver, according to reports reaching the sheriff's department. The driver reportedly noticed the truck stopped on the side of the highway at an unusual angle early yesterday morning, but that he paid no attention to it at that time. In the afternoon, however, the driver again noticed the truck and reported it to Red Martin, superintendent of the Phillips gasoline plant. The two men and Harold Teegerstrom, plant superintendent of the United Carbon Co., went to the truck and reportedly found Goss slumped down in the cab seat. Rigor mortis had already set in, the men stated. Investigating officers said Goss had apparently suffered the attack and lost control of the truck, forcing it into the bank at the side of the highway.
