There is no headstone. OBIT: BAILEY--In French Gulch, Shasta County, May 17, 1918, George A. Bailey, native of New York, aged 62 years. Sacramento Bee, May 20, 1918 ------------------ BIO: George Allen Bailey, the son of William and Mary Anne (Smith) Bailey was born in Canada on February 28, 1858. By June of 1880 he was living at Buckskin Gulch, Park County, Colorado, working as a miner. On September 23, 1886 he married Elizabeth Kehler in Lancaster County, Nebraska. The Butte, Montana city directories for 1889 through 1891 (the directories are incomplete) note that he was living and working in Butte and owned a meat market located on south side Talbot Avenue, west of Warren; they were living at the same address. By 1892 they were living in Clancy, Jefferson County, Montana. On March 27, 1894, George and his wife Elizabeth were 1/6 owners in the "Creole Quartz Lode Mining Claim." The list of voters in School District No. 1, Jefferson County, Montana in April 1895 includes George and Elizabeth Bailey. Elizabeth died on December 8, 1897. George was active in the Clancy community, especially the school district. In April 1899, he was elected Chairman of the School Board. On July 18, 1899, the newspaper, Clancy Miner, reported that "George A. Bailey and family removed to Helena where they will hereafter reside. Mr. Bailey has been a resident of Clancy for a number of years, and the good wishes of the community will go with him." On April 4, 1900, George married Minnie Regina Budd in Baker County, Oregon and in June George and Minnie were living in Pocahontas Precinct, Baker County, Oregon with Minnie's daughter Bina. George lists his occupation as gold miner. In 1905, the Baker City, Oregon directories list George as living at Campbell southeast corner of 7th, occupation miner. By 1910 George had moved to French Gulch, Shasta County, California, miner-gold mines. On May 17, 1918, George died of chronic valvular disease of the heart. He was buried in the French Gulch Cemetery on May 18, 1918. His death certificate confirms his death and burial.
