Bio

Andrew Morton (Ben) Turpin, 83 , of Mackay, died Tuesday, July 27, 1993, at Pocatello Regional Medical Center. He was born April 24, 1910, in Jerome, Idaho, the son of Charles W. and Minnie M. Morton Turpin. He attended schools in Jerome and in California. Prior to World War II he worked for Morrison & Knudsen Construction Company, and resumed his employment with them after the war. He was a heavy equipment opera tor, and retired in 1979 after 44 years with Morrison & Knudsen. Following his retirement, he moved to Mackay from Boise, and married Una Howell on Sept. 1, 1979, in Mackay. He traveled the world, working on various construction projects, and many projects in the North west. He enjoyed bowling, and was past commander of the American Legion Post No. 16 in Mackay. He also was active in the AA program. Survivors include his wife, Una, of Mackay; two sons, Charles Ed ward Turpin of Sacramento, Cali fornia, and David Andrew Turpin of Livermore, Calif.; two stepsons, Julius L. Helvey of Marago, Colorado, and Lynn Ankrum of Salem, Oregon; two daughters, Doralee Sharon Haun of Timber, Oregon, and Delila Jane Turpin of Washing ton, D.C. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Adeline Helvey, and two stepchildren, Laramie Anrkum and Vonnie Barrett. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 29, 1993, at 11 am. at the Mackay American Legion Post No. 16 Hall on Main Street in Mackay. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Mackay Cemetery.
