Marian Van Der Snick (nee Melton), 72, of Batavia, died November 3, 2003 at St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford, after a sudden emergency, with her family at her bedside and her husband Donovan and the Lord watching over and waiting to greet her. Marian was born June 6, 1931 in Homer, IL, daughter of Martin and Pearl Melton. She attended schools in Homer, Urbana and graduated from Champaign Central High School in 1950. She then studied at Brokaw Mennonite Nursing School. Marian met Donovan Van Der Snick in Homer, IL and they were joined in marriage on October 7, 1951 at the Methodist Church in Urbana, IL. Marian was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her love, kindness and generosity was felt by many and will live on forever through those she touched. She enjoyed gardening, reading and helping others and was happiest when she could be doing for others or helping others. Marian was a member of the United Methodist Church of Batavia, IL. Mrs. Van Der Snick is survived by her son, J. Brick Van Der Snick of St. Charles, IL; two daughters, Robin Hayden (Roger) of Chestnut, IL, Staci Van Der Snick-Novack (Mark) of Sugar Grove, IL; a grandson, Kyle Hayden; a granddaughter, Hope Novack; and two grandbirds, Hootie and Chico. She leaves behind many people who she met in everyday life in the area and will miss her visits and friendly conversations. Marian was preceded in death May 8, 2003 by her husband of 52 years, Donovan Van Der Snick; her parents and a grandchild. Visitation will be Saturday, November 8, 2003 from 4-8 p.m. at Moss Family Funeral Home, 209 S. Batavia Ave (Route 31) in Batavia, IL. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, November 9, 2003 at the United Methodist Church, Batavia, IL. Interment will follow at River Hills Memorial Park, Batavia, IL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Marian's name to the Ronald McDonald House, 622 West Deming, Chicago, IL 61356 or the Anderson Animal Shelter, 1000 South LaFox Road, South Elgin, IL 60177.
