Bio

Earl “Chuck” H. McLain was born to Hereford and Rose (Jans) McLain on November 9, 1924 on a farm in Pipestone County. He lived with his parents on various farms in Pipestone County near Verdi, MN where he attended country schools. Upon completion of his education, he worked on the farm until enlisting in the Navy in December of 1942. He served three years during WWII before returning to Edgerton, MN where he lived with his sister, Vera. He worked as a blacksmith in Edgerton for a short time. Chuck was united in marriage to Viola Bruyn on December 31, 1946. Following their marriage, they moved to Chandler, MN where he began working as a mechanic at various shops, retiring in 1988 from the Amoco Station on Highway 91. He continued living in Chandler until entering Murray County Memorial Hospital on March 22, 1998. On March 25, 1998 he was transferred to Our House Hospice of Murray County where he died on March 28, 1998 at the age of 73 years 4 months and 19 days. He was a member of the Chandler Reformed Church of Chandler. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #338 of Chandler. Chuck loved to work on cars. He also enjoyed the times he spent with his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Viola; four children, Bill and Pat McLain of Chandler, Minnesota, Barb McLain of Mountain Home, Idaho, Gail and Herb Osgood of Danvers, Massachusetts and Jim and Gloria McLain of Moorhead, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; one brother, James McLain of Sioux City, Iowa and two sisters, Martha Dorsett of Burson, California and Blanch Dewey of Sumner, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
