Bio

James H. Buckner, 84, of Lubbock passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2011. He was born on July 18, 1927 in Tipton, Okla. to Benjamin and Esther (Brewer) Buckner. He moved to West Texas in 1942 where he has lived since that time. In 1950 James met the love of his life, Ysleta Reed, and they married on September 2, 1950 in Lubbock. He served in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1947 and in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. James worked for Household Supply Company for 20 years and then owned and operated The Economy House for 26 years before retiring in 1992. He was an avid bowler and golfer, enjoyed working in his garden, but more than anything else he loved his family. He loved to watch his children and grandchildren participate in their various activities. He was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church. James is survived by his wife, Ysleta of Lubbock; daughter, Debra Kierst and husband Peter of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son, Michael L. Buckner and wife Leisa of Wilson, Texas; grandchildren, Mary Hutchins and husband, Troy of Nashville, Tennessee, Makenzy Stanton and husband Bryan of Abernathy, and Luke Buckner of Wilson; and three sisters, Polly Michelitch and husband Jake of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, Marie Buckner and Billie Buckner of Lubbock. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Curtis Fred; and sister, Maxine Mintkenbaugh. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the Oakwood United Methodist Church with Rev. Wendell Horn officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
