Services for Marie (McKinney) Moorman, 101, of Kemp, Texas are scheduled for Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at 2:30 P.M. at the Anderson-Clayton Bros. Chapel in Kemp. Interment will follow at the Kemp Cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 6:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. and will also receive friends Wednesday, November 16, 2011 from 12:30 P.M. – 2:30 P.M. at the funeral home. Following a brief illness, Mrs. Moorman died Monday, November 14, at Hospice HomePlace in Tyler, Texas, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was born July 27, 1910 in the Becker Community of Kaufman County to William Allen and Era (Halbert) McKinney. She attended school in the Rand Community and was a graduate of Kaufman High School class of 1930. During World War II she lived in Dallas and served her country as "Rosie the Riveter" at North American Aviation. Being known for her home cooking at various church events, Mrs. Moorman began working in the lunchroom of the Kemp Independent School District after being offered a job by the Superintendent that "paid more than farming cotton" in 1959. In 1966 she was promoted to High School Librarian and retired in 1985 after 26 years of service. She was a longtime member of Kemp United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the choir and was active with Vacation Bible School. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles "Edward" Moorman, her brothers; Bowen, Donald and Gordia, and her sisters; Janie Hall and Mary Nuckolls. Survivors include daughters: Marilyn Tate and husband, Cecil of Tyler, and Janis Moorman of Tyler; step-granddaughter Tammy Edwards and husband Kevin, of Blanchard, Oklahoma, grandchildren: Keith Tate of Whitehouse, Troy Tate and wife, Sarah, of Flint and Valerie Ramsey and husband, Brian, of Whitehouse; great-grandchildren: Eric and Brian Tate, Timothy, Grace and Lily Tate, step-great-grandson Barron Ramsey, and numerous other family and friends. Pallbearers are: Larry Mahan, Keith Tate, Brian Ramsey, Troy Tate, Eric Tate, and Brian Tate. Honorary Pallbearers are: James Boyd, Cecil Tate, Alfred Wilson, and Art Neria. The family would like to thank Gayle Hanna and Larry Mahan for their years of love, support, and assistance with Mamaw as she remained living at home until her final week.
