An obituary published in the Shelbyville Democrat on December 7, 1922 for Ezekiel Braden stated that he was born in Coshocton County, Ohio, February 18, 1838 and died December 3, 1922, aged 84 years, nine months, and 15 days. He grew to manhood on a farm in Ohio and was one of a family of three girls and five boys. He served in the Civil War in Co. B of the First Ohio Volunteer Cavalry. He enlisted in August, 1861 and served until the close of the war, being an Orderly Sergeant of his company. After the close of the war he came to Illinois and in 1870 he was married to Miss Mary Laughlin of Penn Township to who were born three children: George E. Braden of Findlay, Mrs. H. M. Pogue of Prairie Home, and Charles Louis Braden who had preceded his father in death on March 15, 1897. Besides the wife and children, there were surviving him one brother, D. E. Braden and one sister, Nancy Black of Cambridge, O.; six grandsons, two granddaughters, and one great-grandson. Funeral services were held at his home in Findlay, Rev. Tremaine of the M. E. Church of Windsor, officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery.
