Gaertner, 78, of Santa Anna Community, died Friday, Jan. 15, in Houston. He was born in La Grange, Tx. On May 22, 1920, to Frank and Leona (Schaefer) Gaertner. Mr. Gaertner married Elizabeth Polasek on Dec. 26, 1944. He worked for Colorado County Precinct #3, Sprint Sand & Gravel, where he retired, and presently he was a self-employed farmer & rancher. Gilbert was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellinger. The Herman Sons Lodge of Ellinger, and the Ellinger Chamber of Commerce. Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 18, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Ellinger, with Father Ben Mazurkiewicz officiating. Interment followed at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Ellinger. Pallbearers were Jesse Gaertner, Frankie Gaertner, Ronnie Polasek, Donnie Polasek, James Polasek and Raymond Polasek. Mr. Gaertner is survived by his daughters & sons-in-law, Barbara & Francis Truchard of Mentz, Leonora & Lenart Zapalac of Ellinger, and Susie & Roy Eon of Keller, Tx., sons & daughters-in-law, Gilbert F. Gaertner of Shaws Bend, Edward & Nancy Gaertner of Fayetteville, and Robert & Carrie Gaertner of Cypress, Tx , brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charlie & Lorine Polasek of Plum, sister-in-law, Lillian Gaertner of La Grange, 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents; wife; and brother, Marion Gaertner. The Colorado County Citizen, Columbus, Texas, Wednesday, January 20, 1999
