Whitney Messenger Friday, July 20, 1984 Jack Ernest Overton Mr. Jack Ernest Overton, age 88 of Whitney, died July 12, 1984. Services were held July 14 at Marshall and Marshall Chapel in Whitney with Rev. Kenneth Stevens and Rev. Allan Lane officiating. Burial was in the Whitney Cemetery. Mr. Overton was born March 4, 1896 in Prairie Valley Community, Hill County, Texas, the son of Montie Ray and Charlie Wm. Overton. He lived in Hillsboro and Corpus Christi and 10 years back in Whitney. He was a retired electrician and a member of the Walnut Street Baptist Church in Hillsboro. He is survived by his wife, Crystal Overton of Woodward, Oklahoma, 3 daughters, Mrs. Donna Smith and Mrs. Norma Bailey of Waco, and Mrs. Hazel Lynn Akins of Beckville, Tx., 2 brothers, Johnnie Overton and Hurchel P. Overton, both of Whitney, 5 sisters, Mrs. Onie Jones of Overton, Tx., Mrs. Zolena Gilmore of Vernon, Mrs. Virginia Tedder of Dallas, Mrs. Clemmie McCarley and Mrs. Frances Briggs of Whitney, six grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
