Edwin is the son of George William Spesert and Mary Angelina Maxwell. Edwin married Mae Thomas about 1914 in Humboldt County, California. They had two children, Edwin Allis Spesert, Jr and Rosalind "Rosa" Mae Spesert. Edwin died in 1924 at age 39, after having been paralyzed and wheelchair-bound for seven years. Has been remembered in family tradition as a "dandy", and family folklore has his cause of death as syphilis. The "Grave Matters and Untimely Departures" program which was presented at the Sunrise Cemetery on 30 October 2011 gave Edwin's cause of death as syphilis. However, the Sunrise Deed Record listed the cause of death as hemiplegic.
