Civil War Veteran, Co, B and C, 9th IL Cav., 10 SEP 1861 - 24 OCT 1862 and 22 SEP 1864 - 8 JUN 1865 JAMES KIRKPATRICK, NONAGENARIAN, DIES James Hammond Kirkpatrick, 94, Nebraska resident for more than a half century, died at his home on South Locust street, at 11:45 a.m., Saturday. Though he had been afflicted with cancer for some time past, his condition did not become extremely critical until within the pat two days. About two years ago Mr. Kirkpatrick sustained a fractured hip, from the effects of which he had never completely recovered. Born in Kosiusko county, Indiana, on January 21, 1837, he came to Nebraska on March 1, 1879, locating on a farm in Hamilton, County, near Phillips, where he resided until coming to Grand Island in 1897. During the Civil War, Mr. Kirkpatrick enlisted for service, serving with Company C, 9th Cavalry. In November, 1862, he was discharged due to disabilities, but he re-enlisted in 1864 and served for the duration of the war. On December 24, 1863, in Henry County, Illinois, he was married to Miss Elizabeth Sharp, who survives him. Immediate relatives surviving are his widow, three sons, Fred of Columbus; Herman of Grand Island; Sherman of Phillips; and three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Gibbs, Graybull, Wyo.; Mrs Mina Potter and Mrs. Emma Dearing, both residing at Phillips. One Son, William passed away at the age of three years. Arrangements for the funeral have not been completed. The family requests that there be no flowers. Grand Island (Neb.)
